According to the American Heart Associations recommended blood pressure levels, normal blood pressure is less than 120 systolic and less than 80 diastolic, pre-hypertension is 120-139 systolic and 80-89 diastolic, high blood pressure stage 1 is 140-159 Systolic and 90-99 diastolic. High blood pressure stage 2 is 160 or higher systolic and 100 or higher diastolic.
The Body
There are primary herbs that have been known to help balance the blood pressure. Herbs such as; garlic, hawthorn berries, cayenne, uva ursi and dandelion are known to combat the dietary contributors of high blood pressure, especially by eliminating uric acids. Chamomile, hops, skullcap, valerian, peppermint, sassafras, kava kava, una de gato, passion flower, wood betony, and B-complex vitamins have been known to aide in controlling stress, therefore addressing the mental contributors to high blood pressure.
It is important to note that sugar destroys vitamin B, therefore enhances the stress levels. The kidneys also play a major role in balancing blood pressure. The cells of the Juxtaglomerular Complex of the kidneys help regulate blood pressure.
Note that the Tabers Cyclopedic Medical dictionary states that the function of the Juxtaglomerular cells are unknown, however according to Structures & Functions of the Human Body, by Thibodeau, these cells help regulate blood pressure.
The Mind / Unresolved Conflicts
We learned in basic psychology that unresolved conflicts can lead to high blood pressure. Suppose you had a big fight with another person, thereafter, every time you encounter that person your blood pressure will automatically rise because that person has been associated with a previous negative experience, this is also referred to as an involuntary physiological response of the sympathetic nervous system.
If the unresolved conflict is with ourselves, this phenomenon gets even deeper, you are then faced with a constant and daily conflict with yourself.
From a Wholistic perspective, the mind can be fed positive thoughts, which may include; prayer, meditation, affirmations, yoga, music and relaxation. Many of us have our minds filled with millions of negative thoughts which negatively effect our sympathetic nervous system, which control our emotions. These thoughts ultimately lead to the raising of our blood pressure.
The Spirit
When we begin to connect ourselves with the love of the almighty, and began practicing peaceful and loving principles, our mental balance can then assist our unbalanced blood pressure. Once we began resolving old divisions and resentments, only then can we have more peace within our minds.
